Resolution in Support of Transgender Rights

Whereas transgender individuals are a vital component of American society and should be acknowledged as such; and

Whereas the current administration’s recent actions threaten the lives and livelihoods of transgender individuals; and

Whereas the current administration’s recent amicus curiae brief to the Supreme Court seeks to remove employment protections from a marginalized class of citizens, tacitly legalizing discrimination against an already vulnerable community; and

Whereas the current administration’s decision to roll back housing and employment protections constitute a systemic assault on our identities and constitutionally guaranteed rights;

Therefore, be it resolved that the Davis College Democrats oppose amicus curiae No. 18-107 and will take as much action as possible to defend the rights and protections of LGBTQ+ people, especially transgender individuals, on our campus, in our community, and in our nation.
